One of Those Days

So I guess I should tell you all that my blog may get a little more personal. My friends challenged me that I couldn’t go the duration of Lent without using Facebook or Twitter, so I decided why not, I mean I could do with less distractions in my life. But in all sincerity, today was interesting.

So we are starting our first project where we get to design whatever we want, and it has to be a live/work/retail building. So I’m doing  a person that makes classic wooden toys. Well yesterday I was lazy and didn’t visit toy shops as precedent studies, and I decided that I could visit three stores all today between my 9am and noon.

Well I had it mapped out, I was going to walk to the Prudential Center, which is about a mile away from school, pick up a new notebook, see one toy store in the Prudential Center, and then go to one in the South End. Well I got to the Pru only to realize I forgot my memory card to my camera in my laptop on campus. So I hopped on the T at the Pru and got off at Longwood Med Area and got the card, and decided to hit a toy store in the South End called “Tadpole” so I took the Orange Line from Ruggles to Back Bay/South End Station, and luckily the shop was about a block away, so I visited it.

Now, I had only been to the South End once before, and I was blown away by how gorgeous parts of it are, and I kind of got distracted and took pictures of everything on the block. After that I needed to go to Coolidge Corner in Brookline to visit two more shops.

I walked to the Copley Station and got on the C train outbound to Cleveland Circle, got off at Coolidge Corner and was blown away. It was such a cool area. Cool buildings, cool shops, cool eateries, and it was so nice, nicer that Huntington Ave and Commonwealth Ave, which also have the the T as a street car in the medians. So I went to a store called “Magic Beans” right in the area, it was a nice higher end toy store, very modern. Along the way I passed the Coolidge Theatre, it was an amazing piece of architecture and I took so many pictures of it.

Further down the same street (Harvard St.) there was another shop called Irvings Card and Toy Shop. It was cool, it was a one story building wedged between row houses. It was crammed full of the coolest things. After that I realized I should head back to campus and get my precedent studies organized in a PDF file for a cleaner presentation.

I could have taken the 66 bus back to Mission Hill and walked the quarter of a mile back to school, but I decided since it was so nice out I would walk back from Coolidge Corner all the way down Longwood Avenue to Huntington Avenue. It was a lovely 1.5 mile walk back to school.

So today was a great day where I discovered new areas of the city to go, I got serious exercise, and saw some cool buildings and it was all a part of my homework, so yeah a good day it was, minus the fact that I just got out of class and now am realizing that I haven’t eaten since last night… .oh well… .

Prepare for a photo overload by the way.
